Collective Soul Set to Release “Rabbit” Album On August 25
August 9, 2009 – It’s not very often that our entire staff get excited about a new album, after all were a cantankerous bunch, but Collective Soul is it for us. The band will release their 8th studio CD on August 25th. Interestingly it’ll be their second self titled effort. Its sports a big rabbit on the cover and front-man Ed Roland told Billboard magazine. "We weren't trying to be confusing, we just thought, 'Oh, we'll come back out and feel really fresh and new. And we'll use a picture of a rabbit,' which to us means fertile. Its rebirth and all kinds of cool spiritual meanings. "But somewhere along the line people started calling it 'Rabbit,' even the recording company. That's fine -- as long as they call it."

After a few years as an independent band Collective Soul opted for label-care, signing a deal with Roadrunner Records' Loud & Proud division, "One thing we learned is that...it's a hard job," says Roland. "It's not as easy as five long-haired dudes coming in and going, 'This is what we want.' It takes a process. The time we were independent really taught us a lot, so with Roadrunner we've approached it like the hybrid of an independent and major label deal, 50/50, and everything so far has been wonderful. We understand the business now, where 10 years ago we were expecting things and we didn't know how to attain them. Now we know what it takes."

Roland also comes clean about finally sharing the song-writing duties with the other guys in the band. The new album marks an interesting landmark, "We've never written together as a band," Roland says, "so it was a new experience. I think it's the confidence that the other guys have gotten in their music skills and the song-writing and also, for lack of a better term, me letting go of my ego a little bit and going, 'You know what? These guys can do this.' And it was a lot of fun."

Collective Soul Doing Charity Work and Recording New CD
Feb. 19, 2009 – Collective Soul’s lead singer Ed Roland has loads of company in his home right now. He and the boys are recording the bands new album at his lake house studio. This will be the group’s 8th studio album and their first since signing with Loud & Proud Records.

Roland says, "We are only 2 weeks in to the recording of our new album and feel more like a band than ever. It's reflected in the music, which we all think is our best material to date." Ok, let me see if I have this right, a musician saying his latest is his “Best Record to Date?”

Collective Soul will headline the ‘Save Darfur Coalition’ Friday, March 27th at the Tabernacle in Atlanta. The charitable group has 130 million members worldwide to help victims of Darfur.

The band just got a nice little push via their track 'Tremble For My Beloved' which is featured in the movie and soundtrack to ‘Twilight.’ – by Kari Graham
