Where's My Teeth? - Grammy’s Make Me Feel Old Dec. 5, 2008 – I remember when the Grammy’s meant something to me. When I actually cheered in front of the TV when someone, I cared about, won a trophy. Last year I endured a pretentious Alicia Keys singing with a very dead Frank Sinatra and Beyonce, who I barely consider an actual musician, trying to make the Tina Turner tribute all about her. More

The message this time around is even more important says Gore – Climate issues are urgent. Bollywood's Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and the Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am will also take part. More
Scariest Halloween Tunes - Top Downloaded, We Pick Pink Floyd’s ‘Be Careful With that Axe Eugene’ Oct. 31, 2008 – Ok, you’ve planned and planned and you and your sweetie have come up with the scariest costume concept for Halloween – John McCain and Sarah Palin as Prez and Vice. You’ve changed the curtains, Joe six-pack and Joe the plumber will give out treats and maybe a little foreign policy, but where is the music? You can choose to rip off John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen, Heart and a host of others who are pissed off at the Republicans for using their songs without permission or how about a new list? Here is a chart for your party tonight.
Unfortunately, it doesn't include what I think is the scariest song of all time ‘Be Careful with That Axe Eugene" by Pink Floyd. The studio recording is featured on' Relics', while a live version can be found on 'Ummagumma.' Trust me, you’ve never heard screaming like this. The Urban legend behind the song says it was inspired by the late great front man of the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia who lost his right-hand middle finger while chopping wood as a child. When I was in high school, my best buddy Kendal Howard locked me in a room, half drunk, turned off the lights and played the song at high volume. I’d never heard it before. It scared the living bajesus out of me! It’s worth buying for Halloween because it’s overwhelmingly menacing and long. Just press repeat and you’re set for the night.
We have consciously left out recordings by Ashlee Simpson and Heidi Montag. Though both are pretty freakin’ scary, they didn’t qualify as singers. They will appear in a future list named, ‘Songs of Deep Vacuous Need Ready to Suck the Life Right Out of You.” - by John Beaudin
Pink Floyd Keyboardist Richard Wright Dead at 65 Sept. 15, 2008 – Sad news from England today, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, Richard Wright has died after a short battle with cancer. He was 65.
Our Rock stars are dying, plain and simple. If you grew up in the 60’s or 70’s you will witness these losses over and over. Here we were so busy wondering why David Gilmour and Roger Waters couldn’t just bury the hatchet and just give the fans one more tour, possibly one more Floyd album. That’s not going to happen and now I feel guilty for even wishing it.
Wright was the quiet one in the group though his influence is well documented and let’s be real though, Gilmour and especially Waters got most of the credit. There is no question that Pink Floyd would not have been one biggest band in the universe without Wright. Gilmour says, "In my view, all the greatest Pink Floyd moments are the ones where he is in full flow. No-one can replace Richard Wright - he was my musical partner and my friend." He added: "In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick's enormous input was frequently forgotten. He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognised Pink Floyd sound. Like Rick, I don't find it easy to express my feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him enormously. I have never played with anyone quite like him."
Wright wrote "Us and Them," "The Great Gig in the Sky," "Atom Heart Mother," "Echoes" and "Shine on You Crazy Diamond." He was a huge part of the Floyd sound from the beginning with late singer Syd Barrett, drummer Nick Mason and Waters.
With Wright’s passing also came painful reminders of him being kicked out of the band during the recording of their classic album ‘The Wall.” The tension between Gilmour and Waters has always been well known but let’s not forget Wright also had problems with Waters. In fact when Waters toured ‘The Wall” as a solo act along with Mason, Wright refused to be involved
Water left the band in 1985 but Wright, Mason and Gilmour continued to record under the name Pink Floyd recording two more albums, "The Division Bell" and "A Momentary Lapse of Reason. "
The only reunion in July 2005 when all four members performed at the Live 8 Charity Concert in London.
The other classic Floyd album, ‘Dark Side of the Moon” has spent more than 741 weeks on the Billboard chart, more than any other album in history.
In 2006, Wright spoke of the bands huge shows, "One of the things I always regret about being in Pink Floyd is that you can never go to see the show. I have no idea what it looks like. We know it's pretty powerful, but when you're on stage you have no clear idea of it."
I pulled out ‘Dark Side of the Moon” and ‘Wish You Were Here” today and listened to Pink Floyd in a very different way as I’m sure many of you did today. When Brad Delp, lead singer of Boston committed suicide on March 9, 2007 I couldn’t listen to those first two albums for about a year but in the end I think we get it – the music isn’t dead. Richard Wright left a huge body of work behind and it’s outlasted him. It was always supposed to. Our Rock stars are dying but their music never will. – By John Beaudin
David Gilmour Goes Really Big for New Live Album May 13, 2008 – Would one of the driving forces behind Pink Floyd ever do something understated? David Gilmour is set to release his new live album `Live in Gdansk` in September and it’s a huge production. It sounds great on paper anyway. The album was recorded on the last night of his 2006 tour in Poland and it features a 40 piece string section of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra. Also on the project conductor by Zbigniew Preisner, who worked on Gilmour`s last hit album ``On An Island.`` The album reached No. 1 in England and No. 6 in the U.S. and features old friends Kate Bush, Paul McCartney and PeteTownshend. - By John Beaudin
