Jimmy Page Slams Guitar Hero As a Waste of Time But My Son's Learning
June 23, 2009 – Some say Guitar Hero and Rock Band are a big waste of time for kids. Why spend all those hours on a pretend Guitar and Drum kit when you could learn on the real thing. Well, my 5 year old son Chase (pictured on both kits at left) is a real good little drummer and he learnt on both a real kit and that little piece of crap Rock Band set (ours has never worked well, it keeps disconnecting from the PS3 unit)

Jimmy Page says don’t waste your breath on the fake instruments. The former Led Zeppelin guitar God was speaking at a conference in Los Angeles on Friday to promote the forthcoming movie that features his career “It Might Get Loud” and said kids are learning nothing on Guitar Hero.

"You think of the drum part that John Bonham did on Led Zeppelin's first track on the first album, 'Good Times Bad Times'," Page said. "How many drummers in the world can play that part, let alone on Christmas morning?" More

Paul and Ringo Reunite to Introduce “Beatles – Rock Band”     Bookmark and Share
June 2, 2009 - Microsoft's Electronic Entertainment Expo in southern California was invaded by The Beatles yesterday, well, at least Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. The two surviving Beatles along with John Lennon and George Harrison’s widows, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison unveiled the new Rock Band video game inspired by the Fab Four.

"Whoever thought we'd end up as androids?" joked McCartney as he got up on stage with Starr.

"The Beatles: Rock Band," which will be released on September 9, will differ from other versions of the game, in that it will feature three-part harmonies and replicas of the original band’s instruments.

Gun N’ Roses Full ‘Chinese Democracy’ Download Available Soon for "Rock Band"
Feb. 18, 2009 – The lackluster reviews and disappointing sales of Gun N’ Roses comeback album ‘Chinese Democracy’ haven’t affected MTV Games from adding the album for download for Rock 2.

Axl Rose said yesterday that the album would be ready for download for the game on February 28 however MTV games said it would closer to spring.

Rose said, “They [MTV Games / Harmonix] felt the record-based on the nature and complexity of the depth of instrumentation-deserved a bit more attention and some more involved elements than they’ve generally dealt with, I have no idea what that means but it’s my understanding they were very enthusiastic.” More

Guitar Hero Want to Give You Real Guitar Lessons
Oct. 7, 2008 – There’s no feeling like imagining yourself as a Rock God while playing Guitar Hero. The only thing that’s missing maybe is the fact that, it’s all smoke and mirrors – you’re still not playing a real guitar. You spend all that time getting good at this thing but really, are you getting any closer to being able to play a real guitar? That’s all about to change with the announcement of new software that will help you transfer all the skills you’ve learned from the game to the real guitar. It’s called Gamers to Players (G2P) and it promises to get rid of the hassles of real guitar lessons.

Mark John Sternal, the co-creator and expert instructor of G2P says the system will walk you through the similarities of playing a real guitar compared to Guitar Hero, He says, “people of all ages love games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. These games have even inspired a number of people to take up a musical instrument as a hobby."

Sternal adds, “The problem is, learning to play guitar after learning the games can be difficult. G2P gives a gamer an advantage over beginners when making the transition from the controller to a real guitar. Our unique system cuts out all of what gamers don’t want, and gives them all of what they need to start cranking out tunes right away! G2P speaks the language of gamers, and makes the transition from Easy to Expert fast and easy."

G2P is now available in music, game and computer stores. – by George King
