Bobby Kimball Prepares Movie On Childhood Musical Hero Starring Danny Glover

The former lead singer of Toto talked to us last night before heading out for some shows again. Bobby was born two years after the war in 1947. He was raised in a small town which you’ll hear about in a second. In this clip the singer talks about his mother’s musical influence and the fodder for his first major film project. It’s a story actor Danny Glover like so much her wanted to star as the main character Tanner. The movie goes back to a 5 1/2 year old Bobby Kimball in 1952 where racism was everywhere.

Tanner was such a big influence on Bobby that he felt he had to at least write a tune about him. So there’s a song tribute which lead to a book and then a screenplay. The screen writer took it over and then Danny Glover saw and loved it. There are moving on it this year.

Kimball just released his new solo album in the U.S. on Cleopatra records. As a tip of the hat and a sign of moving forward from Toto it’s called, “We’re Not In Kansas Anymore.” – by John Beaudin
