Murray McLauchlan Reminisces on Ultimate “Leaving Home Song” & New Album

Murray McLaughlin Remembers Writing Ultimate Leaving Home Tune “Child’s Song” HEAR THE SONG… ALSO HERE…
July 17, 2017 – Before I even bought records I heard a song on the radio that gave me a sense of perspective that I didn’t know existed. I wondered if i was even allowed to have it. I was 11 and this unknown singer with a truly distinctive voice brought me along to his bittersweet, lonesome, frightening last turn inside his parents house, his old bedroom before he left home. Not even being a teen yet, at that time, leaving my parents was a foreign thought. It’s the great songwriters who remind you us where we are on the map – and where we could be. Murray McLaughlin’s “Childs Song” still makes me cry now as it did then but I love it just as much. We will put links to the tune at the bottom of this case you don’t know it.

When it comes to great Canadian singer-songwriters McLaughlin has been a member of that club for over 40 years. I asked him if he remembers the younger Murray McLaughlin who wrote “Childs Song.”

American folk star Tom Rush also covered “Child’s Song.” Murray McLaughlin’s new album is “Love Can’t Tell Time.” If you count the studio, Best Of and live compilations it’s his 26th album. McLaughlin didn’t write all the tunes but says their all songs he loved to play when he has no agenda.
