Steve Smith Returns To Journey
It may not be the Steve Perry reunion that most fans are asking for but it will do for now. Steve Smith is coming back to Journey for a two-year stint.
The drummer says, “I’ve enjoyed working with Journey guitarist Neal Schon for many years, and playing on his solo albums, including The Calling and his latest release Vortex.”
Smith plans on returning to his solo work by 2018, “Over the years he has mentioned that he’d like to have me tour with Journey again.” he said. The invitation has always been appreciated – but with my busy schedule always being booked at least a year in advance, the timing was never right.”
Deen Castronovo was fired from the group after a domestic violence incident involving drugs resulted in a four-year probation sentence. Omar Hakim was brought in to finish the Canadian tour last summer.
This will be the third time Smith Plays with Journey. He was first with the group from 1978-1985, then again 1995–1998.
“I am excited to revisit a role that was a formative part of my career. Finally I can say ‘yes’ to the many fans who have asked if I would tour with Journey again.”
Journey will tour with the Doobie Brothers and Dave Mason in August.
