The Legendary Le Studio Has Been Destroyed by Fire

I remember in the 80’s when some people called it “Rush’s Recording studio since they recorded some of their most iconic music there.

This morning a fire destroyed the building located in Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains, about 90 kilometers northwest of Montreal.

Authorities say the fire was suspicious suggesting that it may have been set purposely. Firefighters also confirmed that the building was a total loss.

Le Studio was built by legendary recording engineer and producer André Perry over 43 years ago. He told CityNews today “I did my mourning a long time ago because it’s been a really, really bad state for years and years now, It was deteriorated in a way that it was evident that something like that was going to happen.” Even though the studio was on lakeside property Perry said musicians came because it was state of the art.

As mentioned Rush worked on several albums there including “Permanent Waves,” “Signals,” “Moving Pictures,” “Grace Under Pressure,” “Presto,” “Roll the Bones,” and “Counterparts.” David Bowie recorded his 1984 album “Tonight” at Le Studio, Cat Stevens, Sting, April Wine, Bee Gees Nazareth, Chicago, The Police, Celine Dion and Bryan Adams also recorded there but it hasn’t been operational since 2008.

The studio changed hands a few time through the years and efforts were made to resurrect the building but nothing ever panned out.

Over 250 million records sold that were recorded there and now it’s gone. If those walls could talk? – by John Beaudin
