December 19 – Today In Music History

carl-perkins-blue1955 – The anniversary of one of those truly classic singles. Carl Perkins records “Blue Suede Shoes” at Sun Studios in Memphis. It would be his only Top 40 hit reaching #2 on the Billboard chart on March 10th, 1956. Even though Elvis’ version is considered the true version of the tune – his only reached #20 on the chart six weeks later. Charlie Daniels said, “Carl Perkins’ songs personified the rockabilly era, and Carl Perkins’ sound personifies the rockabilly sound more so than anybody involved in it, because he never changed.”
